Poringland grew from around the end of the Second World War, and the older village cores ended up joined together by ribbons of post-war bungalows and other development that filled the gaps between them. Large-scale building held off until the 1960s, and then arrived at once: Elizabeth Road, Hardesty Close and its surrounding closes, and Church Close were all laid out as bungalow developments in that decade. Coverings laid in the 1960s are approaching or past sixty years, which is when slipped tiles, nail fatigue, tired ridge bedding and perished felt at the eaves tend to arrive together. Bungalow roofs put every fascia and gutter run at single-storey eaves height, so checks and repairs are straightforward to reach. All Saints is the only Grade I listed building in the village.
