The parish church of St Remigius carries two coverings over one nave: slate on the three bays to the west, lead on the lower pitched two bays to the east, with a lead fleche on the four-stage west tower. It is flint with some erratics and stone dressings, restored in 1874, when the chancel and transepts were rebuilt. Over at Lynch Green, The Thatched Cottage is 16th century, timber framed, rendered and colourwashed, with a thatched roof and pantile surrounds to its gabled dormers. Most of the work we get called to is plainer than either: slipped tiles after a gale, failed lead around a chimney, a valley patched once too often, gutters running behind the fascia. Hethersett sits about 6 miles (10 km) south-west of Norwich, so it is a short run out of the city for a van and a load of tiles.
